Old friends, memory brushes the same years, silently sharing the same fears

~ Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, “Old Friends”

Isn’t it funny how the internet has changed our patterns of friendship?  Now, instead of hoping to find someone with similar interests in a class or at a job or in the nearby coffee shop, we can shop around online to find kindred souls.  Instead of suffering alone, LGBTQ teens can find others online who reaffirm that they are okay.  More than okay! Normal and with a full enriched life ahead.  Some might say this brave new internet world is cold.  And it can be.  But it can be warm and inviting and wonderful.

Some of my friends who really “get me” are ones I have met online.  We might never have met in real life. Often, we still have never met in real life.  But, the friendship is just as real.  And just like life, these friendships grow. And grow old.

Here is to new friends and kindred spirits!  Now get to know most recent blogs on the VillageQ blogroll :

  •  Just Jasmine Blog – Jasmine is a  hyper-organized, outgoing, controlling, creative, kind, and very diverse lady. Her favorite things to do are to help people, create things, and swear like a sailor.  She is a mother of three who was told she would NEVER  be able to get pregnant. Three pregnancies later and the jokes on them! She is married to Garrett “the awesomesauce” Brown of GarrettABrown.com. Together they work hard to figure out what marriage, parenthood, and life is about. She also will be speaking at Salon LQBTQ!
  • Martinis and Minivans – This blog is for anyone who has ever needed a martini after driving a minivan around all day.  Or for anyone who has just ever needed a martini.  Written by Danielle, it’s the adventure of a New Yorker now living the Midwest life as a somewhat sarcastic writer, mother, and member of a ridiculously insane large Italian family as well as a outspoken ally.
  • The Authentic Life – For forty three years, Bill didn’t have a voice.  And then one day, he said two words that freed all of the other words.  “I’m Gay.”  Now Bill writes so that others who have not found their voice can gain courage to speak and join the other voices of those that have come out. And finally, to shout over the voices of those that would try to silence him.  This blog is a collection of  everyday stories and thoughts from his life.  It is a celebration of what he has found.  That living authentically is the only way out.
  • Holli Long – Joy is the Grace – Welcome to the space where the swirling thoughts in Holli’s head make it to the page. Or screen, as it is. She writes about her faith and family and the better world she dreams of for her children.
  • The Debt Princess – This blog isn’t really about anything LGBTQ related. The author just happens to be a lesbian who writes about being in debt and getting out of it while living a fabulous life frugally.

What better musical accompaniment than these two old friends.
