Featured Family Portraits

It’s featured family time! When I think about the time when I came out, I can’t help but think mostly about how alone I felt. How I didn’t really know any other queer people, and certainly not out queer people. I often wonder how different it would have been for me to come out now with families like these three everywhere I turn. That rules. I often think that sharing our families online and in our real life spaces as Doing The Work. Because yes, we’re just loving and living and doing what we do, but we’re also paving the way for a new generation, making it a safer and more comfortable world to come out in. That’s the work. Queer families rule.

“My name is Kim and I’ve been with my partner Kristy for over eight years. We had our daughter Ayla in September 2012. Kristy is the biological mother. We had our second parent adoption finalized in November 2012 and both of our names are on her birth certificate. We love trying new things as a family. We love exploring the outdoors and bicycle rides the best.”
