It’s Featured Family time! This week’s families come from the VQ family. Our own contributors are sharing their families because queer families rule.

shannon's family

“My name is Shannon (the femme!) and my partner Cole (the butch!) and I were extra-legally married in 2003. (We we legally married in Canada later, but that still doesn’t count yet, where we live.) We have two daughters, both born in Chicago and adopted by us soon after birth. They are currently 6 and 8 years old. Our family is very colorful. The adoptive moms are white, the birth moms are Black and the kids are Black and biracial. We divide our time between a condo in the trees of Rogers Park in Chicago and a house on the prairie in Urbana, Illinois. Cole is a teacher. Shannon is a writer. The kids are awesome.”

You can find Shannon on Twitter @lilysea and at shannonlccate.com.

  1. OH HI! I’ve known (and loved!) Shannon for all the years of the Internet. She’s fantastic to have all kinds of conversations with, so everyone should be her friend.

Off to follow the other awesome families.

  2. Ha!Sandra! I love that photo and really want to steal the idea.

  3. Awww. yes, I might steal that idea — we’re also an Internet-incognito family.

  4. So much cuteness.
