This past weekend, Luisa and I took the kids to the mall to get the last pieces of their outfits for the cocktail party we’ll be attending this coming weekend. We do not enjoy malls. First, we have to drive to the suburbs only to endure the crowds and the […]

It was the ’80s and I was a teenager. I had long, permed hair and bangs so high they would hit the roof of my car when I hit a big bump. Perhaps, that is an exaggeration but that is to be expected – bangs were so hyperbolic in the […]

Luisa and I bought our house in 1996. We’ve lived here for 17 of the nearly 20 years we have been together. We have scraped wallpaper, patched cracks, painted and painted again. We have learned to change light fixtures and repair pipes and lay tile. Structure damage, however, often requires […]

I came out in 1990 and you do not have to be a mathmagician to realize A) that was a very long time ago and B) I am a little bit old. Back then, I had to walk to my college classes uphill both ways and the snow was always […]

Last weekend, my son asked me to make cranberry orange muffins for him because they were going to be doing standardized testing all week at school and could take a special snack to have while filling in little ovals with #2 pencils. Well, he didn’t say the ovals and pencil […]
Family / Parenting
It seems like just yesterday I was chasing my son as he crawled around the living room trying to eat lint and stick his fingers in light sockets and pull books off of the shelf and onto his head. Parenting seemed so complicated then, so frenetic and demanding. I assumed […]
