Is She an Only Child?

Our daughter is that age. You know the age. When all of her little friends have new siblings. And she… doesn’t. Now, she also has friends who are only children; friends whose parents only want one child and are happy with their one. And that’s okay. But then there are […]

My Daughter’s First Princess

This summer, the week before she started her big kid preschool, I took n to see her first movie. And it was a Disney Princess movie. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am definitely a sucker for the marketing of The Mouse. I love Disney movies, even many of the […]

“I’m a big boy. And also a little girl.”

That’s what my daughter said to me last night as she sat on the toilet in the men’s room. (Not for any subversive reason; only because the ladies’ room was occupied, and when a 2 year old has to pee…) It’s not the first time she’s said something like that. […]

A Holiday Wish

Teaching Thankful

I know, I know, you can’t teach somebody to be thankful. But so much of parenting is teaching by example, and you can certainly show how you are thankful. This year is the first year that n will be really aware of what’s going on with Thanksgiving, and may have […]

One Person at a Time

I know that’s how it’s done. It’s how I firmly¬†believe in how it’s done. I believe in it with every bit of my heart and soul, much as it may make my wife weep and despair for me, as she’d rather throw rotten fruit at the naysayers, while calling them […]

Twas the night before election…

[Cross-posted from Two Hot Mamas] And all across my state, the LGBT community is holding their breath. Okay, not quite. They’re actually making phone calls and sending emails and posting up a storm. But, as important as the Presidential election is, I can’t quite help but feel that there’s far […]
